need help with college girlfrend

my Girlfriend is turning 19 and we are at separate colleges. we have been going out for 14 months and i see her maybe once a month durring the school year. last year her birthday was only a little while after we started dateing. i got her a matching set of a fuzzy wool hat and gloves. she recently told me that while she thought the gift was cute, it was boreing. now i have been serching the web for weeks and i have not found anything that i think she would like. i have already decided that i will send her a giant "cookie cake" but i feel like i need to find something else. something special. we have lots of pictures together and i was maybe thinking about getting her a heart-shaped puzzle with a picture of us on it but i dont know if she would see that as boring. she has a dorm room all to herself but her friends are in there alot. shes not a big "girly" girl but has her moments. for our 1 year anyversary i sent her a 12 rose bouquet and a teddy bear so i really dont want to get her flowers or a stuffed animal unless its really good. i am at a loss right now. i just really want to find a unique gift that shows her how much i love her ( for about 50$ or less(college kids have no money)).

also, i wil be visiting her for her birthday so i was maybe thinking of something that i could incorparate with that
