Cool Gift Wrapping Ideas:
Wrapping with Newspaper

Make beautiful presents using materials around the house with simple and creative gift wrapping ideas and techniques.

Have you ever had a gift wrapping emergency and felt tempted to wrap your present in some newspaper?

Well, it is a great idea. However, the trick is to make it not look like a horrible afterthought.

In this video series, decorating whiz, Amy Snively, demonstrates how to use newspaper to wrap presents. Watch as she uses this idea to create beautiful present.

She will show you how to wrap a present using the funny papers and take it to the next level. So it looks like a thoughtful expression that you will be proud to bring to the party, instead of something that looks like an emergency.

Things you'll need:

  • Funny papers
  • Cling film
  • Tape
  • Scissors
  • Colored paper: (tissue paper/ construction paper/ scrapbooking paper)
  • Curling ribbon

Tip: Take a look at the comics and pick out the color that is the most dominate or that would be a good accent, and choose your colored paper accordingly.

In this video, Amy is gift wrapping her box using the funny paper in casual wrapping technique.

Next she will add some accent to the gift wrap.

Adding Accent

In order to add an accent to the package you will need a wide stripe of a bright color that will fit all the way around the box.

Amy uses a tissue paper, but since it doesn't reach, she uses it diagonal, from corner to corner. She folds the tissue paper several times until she gets strong, bold, pretty stripe that she can put on the box. Then she fastens it with some tape.

Making it Shine

Now that your gift wrap is done, it's time to make it even more special.

For this Amy uses an ordinary cling film. She opens it until she gets a nice start, where it's nice and flat and trims off the part she won't use. She places the box in the center of the cling film and gently wraps it.

Embellishing with Ribbon

For an eye catching package, pick a ribbon that goes with the colors in the funny papers and just wrap it around a couple times and tie it up.

Tip: If you need a more serious wrapped present you can use the financial section of the paper, it could be a great gift wrap for a man.
